Spain’s Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska called on Italy to immediately cancel additional checks, stating that they “clearly do not correspond to what was acknowledged during the EU ministers’ video conference”.
Position on the Schengen Zone
Grande-Marlaska emphasized that during the video conference of EU ministers, it was acknowledged that “the Schengen Zone has never been in danger”. He argued that there is therefore no reason to maintain additional checks.
The minister made the statement during a press conference following the EU interior ministers’ video conference dedicated to the situation in Ceuta.
