Bild: NATO developed three response options in case of Russian attack on Baltic states

NATO has developed three response stages in case of an attack by Russian troops on Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania, reports the publication Bild. The main goal of these measures is to stop the offensive and maximally weaken Russian forces.

The first stage of NATO’s plan involves suppressing missile and drone attacks. To this end, the Alliance plans to use combat aircraft, missiles and drones to destroy Russian missile systems. One of the key targets could be the Kaliningrad region, where numerous air defense systems and missile complexes are located.

NATO’s three response stages

Simultaneously on the borders with Russia and Belarus, NATO plans to create a so-called “autonomous zone”. No Alliance military personnel will be deployed there: drones and ground robotic systems are to operate against advancing Russian troops.

At the next stage, the Alliance may strike already on the territory of Russia. Special forces will destroy military and logistical facilities — airfields, defense enterprises, bridges and railways used to move troops and equipment. The Alliance also counts on the help of Russians who oppose the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

In addition, NATO plans to create an “air bridge” to transfer drones and robotic systems to Russia. They are to attack, in particular, airfields and military bases. At the same time, the Alliance emphasizes that it does not plan to capture the territory of Russia. The task is to push Russian troops back to the border.

“It should be noted that NATO does not intend to keep these plans secret. In the opinion of the military, deterrence is effective only when the opponent knows in advance what they will face in case of an attack on an Alliance member country,” the publication Bild noted.

Warning about possible Russian provocations

Earlier, the publication Daily Mail wrote that Russia could increase provocations against the West and possibly even invade NATO countries. Among the possible further actions of the Kremlin, the publication named Russia’s attempt to capture a city or an entire region in Poland or in one of the three Baltic states.

NATO also believes that Vladimir Putin is already conducting reconnaissance attacks to test and split the Alliance. Later, the agency Reuters reported that Poland and the Baltic states have strengthened the protection of infrastructure, fearing Russian provocations, including dams, power plants and gas pipelines. The intelligence services of the Baltic states believe that the Russian army may already be planning attacks under a false flag on the infrastructure of Russia itself, the Baltic states and Poland.
