French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu is demanding the urgent creation of a team to respond to cyberattacks. The initiative comes in response to a series of cyberattacks that have hit several French government agency websites in recent weeks, including the tax service’s website.
In a letter to the Secretary General for National Defense and Security, which was reviewed by BFMTV on Wednesday, August 19, the Prime Minister stated that “the cyberattacks against which the National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (ANSSI) fights daily, as well as the frequent intrusions and data thefts, today undermine the authority of the state.” He emphasized that “there is an urgent need to develop and implement a more operational and powerful response to the cyberattacks that the state is currently facing without delay,” adding that “it is necessary to regain the initiative.”
Urgent creation of a response team
Sebastien Lecornu is demanding the creation of “a contact group consisting of ANSSI agents and responsible for responding on the front line in case of suspicion of a serious breach of the integrity of the state information system.” The requirement is urgent: the first proposal for the creation of such a group must be presented to the Prime Minister within two days.
The Prime Minister expects “full dedication of ANSSI to this crisis mission,” as he emphasized in his letter.
