The Kremlin on Monday, August 24, stated that the decision by Great Britain to transfer classified information to Ukraine about British components used in the production of long‑range SCALP cruise missiles “adds fuel to the fire.” Moscow views this decision extremely negatively.
The statement came on the day when British Prime Minister Andy Burnham arrived in Kyiv on his first foreign visit since taking office. He was expected to announce British support aimed at helping Ukraine develop its own production of long‑range missiles.
Accusations against Great Britain
Responding to questions about the visit and British support, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused Great Britain of doing everything possible to hinder any progress toward a peaceful settlement.
“Britain is participating in this war on the side of the Kyiv regime. Britain methodically and regularly adds fuel to the fire, and it also repeatedly devises schemes to block even the slightest progress in the peace process,” Peskov told journalists.
According to Peskov, Russian military forces are already systematically gathering data to locate any missile‑production facilities, after which they destroy them.
Moscow’s warning and London’s response
Last week, Moscow warned London about unspecified “consequences” stemming from the supply of drones to Kyiv, accusing Great Britain of deepening its involvement in the war. This followed reports that British drones had been used for the first time to carry out long‑range strikes on Russian territory.
At that time, Andy Burnham said that London is 100 % committed to supporting Ukraine in confronting “this illegal war.”
