A deputy of the Russian State Duma, Oleksiy Zhuravlov, stated that it would be acceptable to destroy up to half of Ukraine’s population to eradicate what he referred to as “Nazism”.
Zhuravlov made these remarks during an interview with blogger Ivan Myronov. When Myronov inquired about the number of “Nazis” in Ukraine, Zhuravlov claimed that this figure was previously around 2% and is now “possibly 20-30%“. When Myronov asked if they should all be destroyed, Zhuravlov replied: “desirable”.
Calls for Mass Destruction
“All Nazis must be destroyed. All of them. Even if it’s 50 percent — even 50 percent — they must be destroyed”, the deputy stated. According to him, this is necessary “so that this plague is not there, so that no one threatens us”.
Zhuravlov also claimed that he personally witnessed atrocities allegedly committed by Ukrainians. “I saw with my own eyes how these scum come and hang everyone they see — Russians, non-Russians, regardless of your views”, he stated, adding: “If this plague is not eradicated from there, it will remain forever”.
The deputy acknowledged that some Ukrainians might change their views but insisted that those who do not should be destroyed: “If they do not change their opinion, they, of course, must be destroyed”.
Criteria for “Fascist” and Methods of “Destruction”
When Myronov asked how to distinguish a “fascist” from a non-fascist, Zhuravlov replied that the determining criterion is the presence of weapons. “If he has a machine gun, yes, he must be destroyed. What is there to distinguish? If you see him, kill him”, Zhuravlov said.
He reiterated that those who do not want to “change their opinion” should either be deported or destroyed: “If you do not want to change your opinion, you must either be expelled from there or destroyed”.
