“We had 111 missiles fired by the Islamic Republic of Japan. They were fired at the aircraft carrier over about an hour. 111 missiles heading toward a very expensive ship, and every one of them was shot down — mostly with the Patriot, but with other means as well,” Trump said.
It is likely that the US president was referring to a missile attack by Iran that occurred earlier this year but mistakenly named Japan. This verbal slip garnered attention because Japan has not engaged in combat against the United States for nearly a century.
