Iranian news agency Fars reported on Thursday that U.S. attacks overnight targeted a railway bridge in a northern Iran province, damaging a trade route with China and Russia, Tehran’s strategic partners.
This route, which passes through Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, is a crucial land corridor from Iran to China. Its importance has increased amid the U.S. blockade imposed this year on Iranian ports. According to Fars, Russia has also utilized this route to transport goods to Iran since late 2025. The agency noted that repairs to the bridge are expected to be completed swiftly.
Escalation of tension in the region
On Wednesday, the United States conducted military strikes on Iran for the second consecutive night, targeting facilities and infrastructure in several locations linked to Tehran’s ability to threaten shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced further strikes on Iran aimed at “further undermining its ability to threaten freedom of navigation” in the vital strait.
The escalation followed attacks on three commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington stated prompted the American strikes. Tehran did not claim responsibility for these attacks. U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform: “This is a response to Iran’s shelling of ships. If this happens again, the situation will get much worse.”
