According to several media outlets, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham exchanged messages with a person impersonating the chief of staff of US President Donald Trump. Four officials confirmed to Politico that Burnham corresponded with someone who called themselves Susie Wiles before suspecting the deception.
The British government did not confirm the communication. Downing Street stated: “We do not comment on national security matters.” A source familiar with the case told Politico that it involved only “a few messages” that did not have significant content.
Embassy contacted the White House
The British Embassy in Washington was so concerned about the incident that it reported it to the White House. The Financial Times also reported on this incident.
According to media reports, the FBI launched an investigation last year after senators, governors, and American businessmen received messages and calls from a person impersonating Trump’s chief of staff.
Susie Wiles, who holds the position of the president’s chief of staff, is responsible for organizing his daily work.
