Finland Supports Italy’s Call to Exclude Spain from Schengen

Finland backed Italy’s proposal to exclude Spain from the Schengen Zone. This statement followed the illegal entry of thousands of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco in recent days.

Statement by Finland’s Minister of Internal Affairs

Finland’s Minister of Internal Affairs Mari Rantanen stated on the social network X that “Spain has completely failed to protect the external border of the Schengen Zone from mass illegal crossings. This cannot continue.”

She added that “Countries that do not fulfill their obligations to protect the external border cannot remain members of the Schengen Zone.”
