Former Mossad chief says Israeli agents repeatedly visited Iran nuclear site

The former head of Israeli intelligence agency Mossad stated that Israeli agents «visited» Iran’s nuclear facility. Yossi Cohen, who led the Mossad from 2015 to 2021, said on August 11 during a conference of local government representatives that agents had visited Iran’s nuclear facility in Fordow multiple times to study it better. He did not specify when these visits took place or who carried them out, Israeli media reported.

Israel’s war against Iran

In June 2025, Israel began a war against Iran, which it considers its sworn enemy. Israel stated that the aim was to weaken Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, which Israeli authorities described as an «existential threat». American military forces briefly joined Israel during the 12-day conflict, using advanced aircraft to bomb three Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

Cohen’s statements and political ambitions

According to Israeli media, Cohen said that «the American bombing of this facility was the fulfillment of all my dreams». Tehran denies seeking to create a nuclear bomb. Cohen, who is close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, played a significant role in promoting the normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Morocco with the mediation of the USA. Sudan also signed the Abraham Accords but was later engulfed in war and never ratified or implemented them.

Cohen‘s name has been linked to the killing of Iranian nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in 2020, although Israel has not commented on the incident. After leaving his position as agency head, Cohen has remained in the spotlight, frequently giving interviews to Israeli media and repeatedly hinting at a possible entry into politics, though this has not yet happened.

Iran’s nuclear program has long been a major stumbling block in Tehran’s relations with the West, particularly during negotiations to end the current war that Israel and the USA started against Iran in February.
