Iran has no intention of continuing negotiations with the United States regarding the cessation of the war, a spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Iranian media. He stated that the country is currently focused on “defending its state”. This statement followed a morning strike by the US on Iranian territory.
Later that same day, the US reportedly struck the Iranian island of Hengam, located near the Strait of Hormuz. The American side has not yet confirmed this information.
Maritime Blockade and Iran’s Threats
As of today, the US has implemented its own maritime blockade in the area of the Strait of Hormuz.
In response, Iran has threatened to impose a “total blockade” on energy exports from the Middle East.
According to Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, the American blockade of the Strait of Hormuz effectively means “the cancellation of the Islamabad Memorandum”, which was the last framework agreement between the US and Iran.
