Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Matteo Salvini stated that the ban on purchasing Russian gas “will not affect the end of the conflict” and “negatively impacts our businesses and economy”.
This statement by Matteo Salvini was made during a video conference at the assembly of Gim Unimpresa — an association of Italian businesses in Russia.
Position on sanctions and energy potential
Salvini emphasized that several European Union countries, particularly France and Spain, continue to purchase Russian gas, indicating that they are not ready to refuse this “energy potential”.
“I do not think that the sanctions have led to the end of the conflict… and I hope that there will not be another 20 packages of sanctions until the end of this war“, he added. Salvini believes that the conflict will end “at the negotiating table”, since “it will not end with an obvious winner”.
