OpenAI removes limit on text chats for ChatGPT Free and Go users

OpenAI announced that starting next week, users of ChatGPT on the Free and Go plans will be able to have an unlimited number of text chats. Currently, these plans may have limitations on the number of text conversations, but these will be removed. However, limits on messages with file and image uploads will remain in effect.

Additionally, next week OpenAI will add a “Think” button for users on the Free and Go plans, which will allow “access to an advanced reasoning mode for more complex questions”. This week, the company is also updating the default ChatGPT model for these users to the new GPT-5.6 Luna.

Updates for Plus and Pro subscribers

For Plus and Pro subscribers, OpenAI is updating the GPT-5.6 Sol model, which, according to the company, will become “more reliable in facts”. The new version is designed to reduce the number of errors, especially when responses depend on dates, numbers, sources, rules, or assumptions, through more effective use of found sources when formulating responses.

The updated GPT-5.6 Sol will also provide “more direct answers” with “clearer formatting”. At OpenAI, they note that ChatGPT “will avoid unnecessary details if it is not helpful”. Additionally, Plus and Pro subscribers will receive a reasoning level adjustment slider, which will allow them to determine “how much thought ChatGPT puts into a response”. The updated GPT-5.6 Sol and the new slider will be available starting this Thursday.
