Russia is “moving toward ending” the war against Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to Russian state media.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Putin to end the war against Ukraine, emphasizing that it “sets humanity back”. He stressed that “the land of Gandhi and the land of Buddha carry a single message — the path of peace”.
“Every day spent in war sets humanity back… We must move away from endless war toward its end. This is necessary for the well‑being of humanity. A peaceful resolution of all issues in the shortest possible time is the call of humanity, and this is India’s message”, Modi said.
In response, Putin reiterated that Russia is “moving toward ending” the war.
“Thank you very much, esteemed Prime Minister. We are indeed moving along this path”, the Russian President said.
Putin’s decision to escalate
Earlier, The Economist, citing sources close to the Kremlin, reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to escalate the war after weeks of deliberation.
According to the publication, this decision was made to preserve his power and life. One of Putin’s long‑time associates said the Russian leader likely perceived the visit by CIA Director John Ratcliffe as a sign of American weakness.
Decline in trust in propaganda
The publication also emphasized that one of the Kremlin’s main problems is the disappearance of the public’s silent consent to the war. Trust in television propaganda is falling, and young people are posting calls to end the war on social media.
At the same time, according to the publication, Putin’s approval rating is declining.
