Russia demands explanations from US regarding alleged support for Ukrainian attacks, Lavrov says

Russia demands explanations from the US regarding the alleged support for Ukrainian attacks, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in comments published on August 14. Moscow believes that the United States is deeply involved in Ukrainian attacks and has already raised this issue with Washington. According to Lavrov, the alleged support from the US includes, in particular, the provision of intelligence data.

“We have sent a number of questions to the State Department asking to comment, in particular, on the situation with intelligence data and the fact that the US is much more actively involved in organizing and carrying out strikes deep into Russian territory on civilian targets. We are waiting for a response,” Lavrov told state television. There were no immediate comments from the American side.

Peace talks and past proposals

Peace talks on Ukraine have not been held since February, when the US went to war with Iran and stopped its mediation efforts between Moscow and Kyiv.

Lavrov quoted Putin, who a year ago at a summit told US President Donald Trump that Moscow was ready to support Washington’s peace proposals. According to Lavrov, Putin said: “Donald, you sent us proposals, and I have considered them. There are issues that require compromise. But I accept your proposals as you sent them to me.”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied that any agreement was reached at the summit, saying that if it had happened, the war would have already ended.
