Jackson posted a screenshot of a Facebook message from the SEC Black Alumni Network—an organization that connects African American university graduates—to his Instagram Stories. The post included a montage of the character Stephen Warren from the film “Django Unchained” wearing an Argentina national team jersey, referencing his racist attitude toward other dark-skinned individuals. The image was paired with the text: “Dear Black community… Please do not cheer for or support Argentina in the FIFA World Cup. Historically, Argentina has been one of the most racist countries in the world, if not the most racist.” La Nación described these claims as “repeated fake information” that has circulated during the World Cup. The message concluded with: “If you are a Black person and you support Argentina, this is how I see you. We heard you loud and clear.”
Reaction of Argentines
Since Samuel L. Jackson’s post was an Instagram Story, responding directly to the actor was not possible. Instead, many Argentines left comments on his recent posts. The number of comments on the actor’s last two posts surpassed 3,000, while he typically receives fewer than 1,000, indicating significant engagement.
Among the most notable comments were: “I can’t believe such a smart and talented person like you fell for misinformation and decided to spread it. I am truly disappointed”; “You’ve lost your mind, old man. Look at the story you posted, it’s nonsense”; “Is it illegal to get information in the USA?” and “You broke my heart with your post about Argentina. I have admired you all my life.”
