Former US President Donald Trump is threatening long-term imprisonment following reports of alleged reductions in weapon stockpiles in the American army. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had previously denied these reports.
Trump supports this denial and threatens those who spread this information with long-term imprisonment. “The USA has huge stockpiles of ‘ammunition,’ especially certain types,” he wrote in a post on his platform Truth Social. According to him, significant quantities are being produced and supplied to the USA as needed. The defense industry in America is also now opening a record number of production facilities and factories in the country’s history. “Those who spread this treasonous information will be prosecuted,” his post continued. “They will demand multi-year imprisonment!”
Sources of reports and possible consequences
Among those reporting on the reduction of weapon stockpiles were the American television channel CNN and the newspaper “Washington Post”. They referred to long-range missiles such as the Tomahawk and interceptors like the Patriot, which are also urgently needed in Ukraine now.
The potential deficit could limit the US’s room for maneuver in a war with Iran, in which, according to the newspaper, Trump expected a quick and relatively easy victory. According to the “Washington Post,” at the summit in Camp David last weekend, Trump demanded explanations from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth regarding the “extraordinary ammunition deficit.”
