The European Football Association UEFA is not backing down from its threat to boycott FIFA competitions, despite FIFA‘s apology for the failed plan to sell the rights to the World Cup. On Thursday, UEFA once again stated its loss of confidence in FIFA President Gianni Infantino and emphasized that the conditions for canceling its boycott had not been met.
“The UEFA associations have very clearly defined the conditions for non-participation in FIFA competitions,” the statement said. — “First, the proposals for the sale of rights to major tournaments had to be withdrawn. Second, FIFA must ensure that similar attempts to distort the game will never be repeated.”
“These conditions have not been met. Furthermore, UEFA clearly stated in its statement on Saturday that it had lost confidence in President Gianni Infantino. This position remains unchanged.”
Reaction to the FIFA summit
FIFA and Infantino tried to demonstrate unity after a high-level meeting in Morocco on Wednesday, when it was announced that the president enjoys the full support of those present. The International Football Federation also apologized to the FIFA Council and member associations for the mistakes and pledged to “guarantee that they will not be repeated.”
However, UEFA remained dissatisfied and made a sharp statement. “Yesterday’s announcement that some people working for the FIFA president and whose careers are due to him agree with him changes nothing,” the organization said.
