Daniel Siad, a figure in the Jeffrey Epstein case, was found dead in his residence near Paris. The name Daniel Siad drew international attention earlier this year when it was revealed that it had been mentioned at least a thousand times in the “Epstein files” released in January.
His email correspondence with Epstein revealed that Siad had traveled across Europe for years, seeking girls and young women to introduce to the financier convicted of sexual crimes. He posed as a model scout. Recently, five women in France filed complaints against Siad for rape and human trafficking. These cases are still under investigation by the French prosecution. Siad has consistently denied the allegations.
Connection with Dutch models
Siad also contacted several Dutch models. One model told the publication De Volkskrant in February that she met Siad in a bar in 2014, where he claimed he could easily arrange a work visa for her to the United States. “It seemed like he could secure the continuation of my modeling career in America, my big dream,” said the model, who wished to remain anonymous. Later, the “Epstein files” revealed that Siad had sent her portfolio not to modeling agencies, but to Jeffrey Epstein.
According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, the body of 69-year-old Siad was found on Monday by his 28-year-old neighbor in an apartment in Colombes, a suburb of Paris. The neighbor stated they lived under the “anti-squat” system (temporary living in empty buildings to prevent illegal occupation) in a house that was for sale. The cause of death remains unknown. The neighbor told Le Parisien that she was on the phone with relatives in her room and heard nothing. “At some point, I went to the kitchen, and he was lying there.” According to Le Parisien, the cause of death could have been cardiac arrest. The French prosecution stated it continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
Third death in the Epstein case
This marks the third case in the sexual crimes investigation related to Epstein where a suspect has died before the completion of the criminal investigation against him. Jeffrey Epstein himself died in 2019 in his cell in New York while awaiting trial on charges of sexually exploiting dozens of girls and women. His accomplice Jean-Luc Brunel, the former head of a modeling agency in Paris, also died in prison in 2022 while an investigation into possible human trafficking and rape was ongoing against him. In both cases, authorities suspect suicide.
In the French case against Brunel, two Dutch women also filed complaints. One of them was set to testify against him in court, but following Brunel’s death, the criminal case was closed. Earlier this year, the Paris prosecution announced that based on the released “Epstein files”, it would resume the investigation into possible crimes committed by Epstein’s network in France. The prosecution called on potential victims to contact law enforcement. Subsequently, investigators received five complaints against Daniel Siad.
