Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Friday, September 11, that pressure from the US on his country “has reached a critical and dangerous stage.” He made the statement during a speech in India ahead of the BRICS diplomatic forum summit.
According to Masoud Pezeshkian, this pressure has intensified in recent months due to military aggression by the US and Israel against Iran. The president also stated that “the world today is going through a period of unprecedented complexity.”
He added that when a country faces political and military pressure on its trade, energy, infrastructure, and financial system, the consequences extend far beyond its borders.
Consequences of the Strait of Hormuz blockade
Iran, whose economy has been weakened by decades of international sanctions, was attacked by the US and Israel on February 28. In response, Iran blocked the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, through which about 20% of the world’s oil passed before the war began.
The blockade, which has been in place for six months since the start of hostilities, continues to cause a sharp rise in global oil prices.
This is Masoud Pezeshkian‘s first official visit to India. According to Indian diplomatic sources, the president is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday evening.
