Ukraine has agreed to export drones to the United States to participate in the Pentagon’s Drone Dominance program, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters on Wednesday.
The agreement was reached during negotiations between Kyiv and Washington on broader cooperation regarding Ukrainian drones. Their effectiveness in the war against Russia has created significant demand from other countries looking to adopt Ukrainian technology and acquire similar models for testing.
Six Ukrainian companies have received permission to export approximately 100 drones each, the source said, speaking on condition of anonymity. There were no immediate official comments from either Kyiv or Washington on the matter.
Ukraine has already signed agreements to supply drones to several European and Middle Eastern countries. Kyiv has also relaxed military restrictions on arms exports, although the government continues to exercise strict control over what is sent abroad.
What is Drone Dominance
The Drone Dominance program is a multi-billion dollar initiative by the U.S. Department of Defense, in which small strike drones from various manufacturers undergo testing that simulates combat conditions. The winner of the first stage was a drone developed jointly by the Ukrainian company Skyfall and the British company Skycutter.
