US President Donald Trump stated on July 24 that he does not believe China or Russia are involved in the current conflict with Iran, but warned that any potential intervention “would be very bad for them”.
Trump shared this on Truth Social, noting that during a recent meeting in Beijing, Chinese leader Xi Jinping assured him that under no circumstances would China provide or sell weapons to the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to Trump, this also applies to Chinese companies.
Trump added that Vladimir Putin also indicated that Russia would not sell weapons to Iran. The US president expressed his belief that Russia and China are not involved in the conflict with Iran. “If they do, it will be very bad for them — certainly not in their best interests,” he wrote.
Conflict between the US and Iran and intelligence investigation
The United States and Iran have been at war since February, when the US and Israel conducted strikes that killed high-ranking Iranian officials, including the country’s supreme leader.
Four individuals familiar with US intelligence reported that Iranian strikes on CIA facilities in the Persian Gulf at the beginning of the war prompted an investigation by US intelligence into whether Russia may have assisted Iran with targeting information or drone technologies. The Kremlin declined to comment on this report on July 23.
