The Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described the current crisis in Russia as “ideal”, asserting that it “strengthens sovereignty” and fosters unity and consolidation within society. The state news agency TASS reported this on Monday.
Speaking at the annual state youth forum “Territory of Meanings”, Peskov remarked that Russia “is currently experiencing an ideal crisis that strengthens our sovereignty and has quickly and sharply infused our entire life with unity and consolidation”. He added that once the set goals are achieved, the country will enter a phase of “rapid development”.
Information war and Western media
Peskov also urged Russia to develop its own tools for creating and disseminating its own “meanings”, contending that the country cannot afford to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on social media platforms, as the United States does.
According to Peskov, the freedom of Western media exists only as long as their positions align with the interests of platform owners and authorities. He claimed that the information war is extremely intense and will likely continue, as “fake news” is becoming increasingly technologically sophisticated, complicating efforts to combat it.
Accusations against Ukraine and the West
Peskov characterized Ukrainians as victims of a “terrible brainwashing campaign”, alleging that the West is transforming Kyiv into an anti-Russian stronghold to “corner Russia”.
Peskov’s comments came as Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian territory in recent months, five years after Moscow’s full-scale invasion. Notably, Kyiv’s drone strikes on Russian oil refineries have contributed to a fuel shortage, while recent attacks on e-commerce warehouses have jeopardized a key sector of the Russian economy.
