Apple Inc. has become only the second company in history to reach a market capitalization of $5 trillion. On Tuesday, the iPhone manufacturer’s shares rose by 1.8% to $342.89, allowing the company to exceed the $5 trillion mark for the first time.
Later, Apple’s market capitalization fell below this mark again. To end the trading session with a valuation of over $5 trillion, the company’s shares must close above $340.43.

Earlier, Nvidia Corp. closed trading on May 14 with a record market capitalization of $5.7 trillion, but has since lost about $1 trillion of its value. Despite falling below the $5 trillion mark, Apple currently remains the largest company in the S&P 500 index.
