Russia threatens Great Britain over drone supplies to Ukraine

On August 17, Moscow threatened Great Britain after media reports about the use of British drones in Ukraine’s strikes on Russia’s territory.

In a statement published by the Russian embassy in Great Britain, it says that “London’s actions will inevitably have consequences it must answer for.”

On August 15, The Times reported that, although Ukrainian drones are mainly used to strike targets deep within Russian territory, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have also successfully used British drones to hit oil refineries near Moscow and elsewhere. Great Britain, a key military partner of Ukraine, supplies it with unmanned systems and other weapons. The British government did not confirm whether the drones provided by Britain were used in attacks on Russian oil refineries.

London’s response and previous threats

Great Britain’s Ministry of Defence responded to Russia’s threats, stating that London “is determined to provide the equipment necessary for Ukraine to defend itself against the illegal invasion launched by Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.”

The Kremlin has repeatedly warned of retaliatory measures against Western countries that provide defensive aid to Ukraine, which is resisting Russia’s full‑scale invasion.

New drone attacks on Moscow

Russia’s statement on August 17 came amid another large‑scale attack by Ukraine using more than 600 drones on the Moscow region, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, was targeted again. The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine previously said that Ukrainian forces “disabled seven out of ten of the largest logistics centers of Wildberries.”
