The co-chair of the right-wing party «Alternative for Germany» (AfD) Alice Weidel stated that if her political force comes to power, it will advocate for the country’s exit from the eurozone. She announced this in an interview with ZDF.
According to Weidel, the euro is an unstable currency, and before joining the eurozone, the economic situation in Germany was allegedly better. She also stated that the welfare of the working population of the country has deteriorated.
Weidel also promised that if the AfD comes to power, the party will close Germany’s borders and withdraw the country from the Schengen Agreement. In her opinion, open borders pose a threat to internal security.
The party also plans to tighten migration policy, increase the number of deportations, and reduce the naturalization of foreigners. In addition, Alice Weidel stated her intention to return about 1.3 million Syrian citizens living in Germany to Syria.
Support for AfD in Germany
In September, elections are planned in Germany in three regions at once: Saxony-Anhalt, Mecklenburg — Western Pomerania, and Berlin.
According to Forschungsgruppe Wahlen, at the federal level, AfD is supported by about 27% of respondents, while CDU is supported by 22%. Other polls also show that AfD is ahead of the political force of Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Assistance to Ukraine and warnings for citizens
Germany has allocated 50 million euros to help Ukraine prepare for winter. These funds will be directed towards housing restoration, provision of mobile sanitary units, and heating equipment, as reported by UNIAN.
At the initiative of Germany, European allies and Canada have promised to provide Ukraine with military aid amounting to 70 billion euros this year and at least the same amount next year. Thus, the total amount of aid will be at least 140 billion euros, stated the head of the German Foreign Ministry Johann Wadephul.
At the same time, Germany recommended its citizens to refrain from traveling to Ukraine before Independence Day. According to diplomats, due to Russian attacks, the possibilities for assisting German citizens are very limited.

In connection with Independence Day on August 24, 2026, an increase in attacks on infrastructure, such as energy infrastructure and transport hubs, as well as civilian objects, cannot be ruled out», — the statement on the website of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany reads.
