CIA Director John Ratcliffe arrived in Russia after U.S. intelligence obtained data on Russia’s early steps toward a possible military mobilization.
As reported by The Wall Street Journal, American intelligence has received data on Russia’s early steps toward a possible military mobilization for the war against Ukraine, as well as plans to test NATO’s resolve. Analysts suggest that Ratcliffe may have met with Russian leader Vladimir Putin to convey a warning to him.
How the Visit Became Known
The first to report on Ratcliffe’s trip was the TV channel CBS. Information about his visit emerged after a U.S. Air Force transport aircraft Boeing C-17A Globemaster III was spotted at a Moscow airport, along with a convoy of American diplomats.
Later, it became known that the United States asked Ukraine to hold off on strikes against Russian territory while the U.S. delegation was in the country.
The last time the head of the CIA personally visited Russia was in November 2021. At that time, William Burns arrived in Moscow to warn the Kremlin at the highest level that the United States knew about the preparations for a large‑scale invasion of Ukraine.
