The People’s Party (PP) has described the recently declassified documents on Ceuta as grave and is calling for a general election. The party accused the government of “clear and deliberate inaction.”
PP spokesperson Ester Muñoz said the released material shows that “the government knew everything that was happening” when more than 70,000 migrants arrived in Ceuta on July 30‑31. She called this a “government lie” and held Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez “accountable” for the crisis.
Accusations of inaction and withholding information
“They had the information. They are accountable for the invasion of Ceuta and, of course, for those who died,” said Ester Muñoz. She suggested that if the government released documents it considered harmless, far more serious material must remain classified.
“If this is what the government chose to declassify to come out unscathed, what information remains hidden?” the spokesperson asked.
Nevertheless, the PP spokesperson confined her demands to political consequences—namely, new elections—and did not evaluate how the documents might affect the judicial probe being conducted by the National Court (Audiencia Nacional). The PP has already joined the case as a party.
“In this situation, and after the government lie exposed today, the Spanish people have the right to decide whether they want a prime minister who lies to us and permits the invasion of our country, endangering thousands of citizens,” said Muñoz.
According to her, it became officially known “today” that Sánchez had lied.
Regarding the judicial investigation, Muñoz declined to draw conclusions. “We will see how this investigation proceeds,” she said.
