A 10-year-old boy has been accused of attempted rape and murder of a young woman in Saint-Brieuc. The boy, who is 10 and a half years old, was officially charged on Wednesday with an attack using a bladed weapon and attempted rape of a 22-year-old woman, according to the prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d’Armor) on Wednesday, June 24.
A young woman was exercising in a forested area of Saint-Brieuc on Monday, June 15, “when a man approached her and ordered her to undress, but she refused to do so,” prosecutor Julien Vatebled said. The attacker then inflicted two knife wounds on her — one on the arm and the other on the stomach — before fleeing.
Arrest of the suspect
On Tuesday, patrol officers found “a person who fully matched the description provided by the victim.” They discovered a knife on him that matched the one used during the attack.
Judicial investigation and educational measures
Since the suspect is 10 and a half years old, he was placed under “temporary detention” for twelve hours, which the prosecution extended once. During the interrogation, he admitted his guilt, the prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc emphasized.
On Wednesday, a judicial investigation was opened on charges of attempted murder and attempted rape with a weapon, and the minor was officially charged.
As the law does not permit criminal measures against such young minors, the investigating judge ordered a temporary judicial educational measure (MEJP). This measure prohibits the boy from leaving his home from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM and from contacting his victim. “Compliance with this measure will be monitored by youth judicial protection services, and measures have already been taken for the hospitalization of the accused,” the prosecutor added.
