Alternative for Germany increases lead over CDU/CSU in national poll

The Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is increasing its lead over the CDU/CSU (Union) bloc, according to the latest ARD-Deutschlandtrend poll.

In the poll conducted by Infratest dimap, the CDU/CSU bloc received 21% support, which is one percentage point less than at the beginning of July. Meanwhile, support for the AfD increased by one percentage point, reaching 28%, if the Bundestag elections were held this Sunday.

Support for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) stands at 12%, the Greens at 15%, the Left at 11%, and the Free Democrats (FDP) at 4%. These figures remain unchanged compared to the previous month.

Positions on cooperation with AfD

According to the poll, 27% of respondents support cooperation with the AfD, although these are mainly supporters of this far-right party. Another 32% of those surveyed believe that the decision on cooperation should be made on a case-by-case basis. At the same time, 37% of respondents categorically exclude any cooperation.

Methodology and poll disclaimer

For the Deutschlandtrend, the company Infratest dimap surveyed 1,297 voters aged 18 and older during this week, from Monday to Wednesday. The survey is representative, with a margin of error of two to three percentage points.

Election polls generally have a certain degree of uncertainty. The decline in party affiliation and the increasingly short-term decisions of voters make it difficult for public opinion research institutes to correctly assess the collected data. It is important to remember that polls reflect only the state of public opinion at the time of the survey and are not predictions of possible election results.
