British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Tuesday stated that the United Kingdom will continue to provide Ukraine with full and unwavering support despite Russian threats of “consequences.”
These statements came after the Russian Embassy in London on Monday warned that Westminster would “pay” for the use of British drones during Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory. The embassy accused Britain of deliberately choosing to escalate the Ukrainian crisis and of “acting as an accomplice and co-perpetrator” of Ukrainian attacks.
Britain’s response to Russian threats
In response to the embassy’s statement during a trip to Wolverhampton on Tuesday, Burnham said: “Britain is doing what it has long promised: 100% support for Ukraine in this illegal war waged by Vladimir Putin.” He added: “We are providing support so that Ukraine can defend itself,” and emphasized that Britain is not a “friend only in favorable circumstances” and “will be there in Ukraine’s time of need.”
In recent months, Ukraine has intensified long-range strikes on Russia, targeting energy infrastructure and logistics facilities. The aim of these attacks is to damage Moscow’s economy and exhaust the Russian military machine.
Ukrainian and Russian strikes
Over the weekend, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukrainian forces struck an oil facility in Ust-Luga, near the Estonian border, as well as the Russian rocket and space center “Progress“. This center specializes in the production and operation of space launch vehicles. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that the launch vehicles produced at the Progress center are used to “launch Russian military, intelligence, and communication satellites into orbit.”
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, at least 10 people were killed and 18 injured in Russian rocket attacks on a village in the northeast of the Kharkiv region, according to local authorities. Oleh Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, reported that the attack on Pechenihy also damaged 10 houses, numerous cars, and shops. Russian forces used two cruise missiles of the “Banderol” type during the strikes.
