King Charles III will make a nine-day visit to South America and the Caribbean at the end of October, during which he will be joined by Queen Camilla, Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday, August 26.
The trip by the 77-year-old British monarch, who continues treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer, will take place from October 27 to November 4, according to the palace statement.
Royal itinerary
First, Charles III will arrive in the Bahamas — an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean southeast of Florida, where he is head of state. He last visited the Bahamas in 1973, when he was Prince of Wales.
After that, the monarch will travel to Guyana, the only Commonwealth country on the South American continent, for a state visit that “marks 60 years of bilateral relations” between Great Britain and its former colony. The trip will take place at the invitation of the President of Guyana and at the request of the British government, the palace clarified.
In the final stage, the monarch will be joined by his wife, Queen Camilla, in Antigua and Barbuda in the Caribbean. There, from November 1 to 4, a meeting of the heads of government of the Commonwealth will take place. Charles III visited this country in November 2017 after the devastating hurricanes Irma and Maria.
The announcement of this trip came on the same day that Charles III‘s younger son, Harry, arrived in Great Britain. He is returning to the country to settle there for an indefinite period with his wife Meghan and children — more than six years after their departure to the United States.
