Alexander Lukashenko has departed on a working visit to Russia, according to his press service.
Lukashenko is set to meet with Vladimir Putin. They are to discuss “key areas of bilateral cooperation”, as well as exchange views on “current issues of regional and international agenda” and “security issues”.
Negotiations and context of the visit
In addition, Alexander Lukashenko plans to meet with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin. The parties will discuss the development of Belarusian‑Russian trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
Lukashenko traveled to Russia two days after CIA Director John Ratcliffe‘s visit to Moscow. Following this, U.S. President Donald Trump also held a closed meeting with the leaders of the security bloc.
Moscow and Washington did not report on the specific purpose of Ratcliffe’s visit to Russia. At the same time, according to WSJ and Politico, the CIA director was to warn the Kremlin about the unacceptability of attacks on the countries of the Baltics.
