A magnitude 4.8 earthquake was recorded near Lima. According to the Geophysical Institute of Peru (IGP), the tremors occurred early Wednesday morning 42 kilometers southwest of the Peruvian district of Lurín in the region of Lima.
The publication El Comercio reports that there have been no reports of material damage or casualties so far.

The official seismic report IGP/CENSIS/RS 2026-0565 states that the earthquake occurred on August 19, 2026 at 05:28:02 local time. Its magnitude was 4.8, and its depth was 42 kilometers. The coordinates of the epicenter are latitude -12.46, longitude -77.20. The intensity of the earthquake in Lurín is estimated at level III.
