Company Rockstar Games released its first official statement after several days of footage leaks from Grand Theft Auto VI, calling the situation “painful for our team”.
The developer of Grand Theft Auto said the leak of the Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay video was a major challenge for the team and did not fit the company’s planned presentation schedule.
Rockstar Games also apologized for the delay in preparing the game, publishing new details, and releasing official gameplay footage. The company noted that development is now almost complete.
Details of the leaks and Take‑Two Interactive’s response
Footage from the game has been repeatedly shared in recent days, apparently from a build that is still in development but already playable. An individual or group calling itself “CyberLeek” claimed responsibility for the leaks, some of which were used to promote cryptocurrency.
Publisher Take‑Two Interactive has asked the court to issue subpoenas to Microsoft and Discord in a copyright‑infringement case, hoping to pinpoint the source of the leaks.
Rockstar Games acknowledged that the leaks could spoil parts of the planned experience with spoilers, but urged fans to wait for the official release.
Fans will also get an “extended showcase” of the game tomorrow during a show that will be streamed exclusively on Netflix at 3:00 PM Eastern Time (ET).
The company thanked the community for its support over the past week, emphasizing that the game is being created for the players. Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for release on November 19.
