Polish Minister of National Defense Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated that Russia has intercepted a significant number of Ukrainian drones and may use them for provocations and false flag operations to deceive. According to him, it is necessary to be prepared for such developments.
The Deputy Prime Minister and head of the defense department emphasized that the threat from Russia remains very high, and he sees no reason to lower the level of vigilance. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that Russia is step by step increasing the level of escalation, including in cyberspace.
Threats to critical infrastructure and cyberspace
Over the past week, Polish and Swedish fighters have intercepted Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea three times. According to the minister, Russia constantly tests the resilience of Poland’s air defense system, critical infrastructure, carries out cyberattacks, and interferes with the operation of GPS signals.
Poland continues to prevent sabotage on its territory. The arrests carried out by the Internal Security Agency and the Military Counterintelligence Service indicate that Russia is not changing its tactics. The issue of the possible use of captured Ukrainian drones for provocations will be one of the main topics of the meeting of the government security committee, which will take place on Tuesday.
Security Committee and solidarity within NATO
The Security Committee of the Council of Ministers will meet on Tuesday, July 21, at 8:00. Participants will discuss threats from the Russian Federation, strengthening the protection of cyberspace and critical infrastructure facilities. Similar threats are also reported by partners from the Baltic countries, Finland, and Romania, indicating risks for the entire eastern flank of NATO.
Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz confirmed that in the event of an attack on any NATO state, Poland will adhere to the principle of solidarity and provide support. “We are obliged to do this and expect the same obligations to be fulfilled towards us,” the Deputy Prime Minister summarized.
