U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he would ask European countries to compensate the United States for the costs of military aid and ammunition previously provided to Ukraine, and he suggested that arms sales to allied nations could be suspended.
In a social‑media post, Donald Trump also criticized reports of a significant reduction in U.S. ammunition stockpiles amid the war in Iran, adding that the United States is building up its own supplies.

“We are keeping them for ourselves, for the USA, instead of selling to others, but sales to allies will soon resume,” he wrote.
He added: “Hundreds of billions of dollars were given to Ukraine and NATO for free, even though Europe would have paid for them if only asked, but we will be asking for this money, albeit a little late!”
Reduction in U.S. ammunition stockpiles
Last month, Reuters reported that the U.S. Army had used a significant portion of its stockpiles of long‑range precision missiles during the war in Iran. This raised concerns about the combat readiness of U.S. armed forces for future conflicts.
