Two Russian Su-35S fighter jets have collided in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation. This was reported by Russian propagandist Ilya Tumanov, who administers the aviation Telegram channel Fighterbomber. “Two Su-35S fighter jets collided in the Kursk region. The causes are being investigated,” he wrote.
The Su-35S is a Russian 4+ generation multirole jet fighter. It is considered one of the most powerful modern fighter jets in the Russian Federation, second only to the new Su-57. The Su-35 carries a wide range of weaponry, including the long-range R-37M air-to-air missile, which has a range of approximately 300 km. It is also equipped with the N035 Irbis phased-array radar, which allows for target detection at significant distances.
Russian aviation loss and supply statistics
According to experts from the Defence24 portal, the Russian military received 14 new combat aircraft during the first eight months of 2026. Specifically, the occupying forces were supplied with 6 Su-35S units, four Su-57s, two Su-30SM2s, and two Su-34 aircraft.
Defence24 estimates that Russia lost at least eight aircraft during the same period: one Tu-95, one Tu-22M, one Su-57, one Su-35, three Su-34s, and one Su-30. Two additional aircraft—a Su-30 and a Su-34—sustained varying degrees of damage.
