President Donald Trump stated on Friday that Israel is ‘very happy’ with the agreement reached by his so-called ‘Peace Council’ regarding the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed Palestinian groups in Gaza.
“We have an understanding with Israel. Israel is very happy with this. Israel helped us, and they were very good,” said Trump. He acknowledged that the situation is ‘very complicated’ and that the agreement may experience ‘ups and downs.’ The president described this agreement as a major breakthrough, noting that previously, few believed in the possibility of complete disarmament of Hamas.
How the agreement will be implemented
According to Trump, the agreement represents ‘a big step for the Middle East‘ and, as he noted, came as a surprise to many. On Thursday, the president referred to it as ‘an important milestone in the implementation of the “Trump 20-Point Plan,”‘ which aims to end the conflict between Israel and Gaza.
Trump also indicated that the agreement will be implemented in stages. Israeli forces will withdraw as disarmament progresses, while international stabilization forces will collaborate with the new Palestinian police to ensure the security of the enclave.
