Trump: US has not yet allowed Ukraine to produce Patriot

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States has not yet agreed to grant Ukraine a license to produce Patriot systems, although the issue is under discussion. He emphasized that granting such a license would be a “big step” and stressed the need to “be very careful in allowing someone to build them,” calling the Patriot an “incredible weapon.”

During a media briefing at a cabinet meeting, Trump noted that “we have not agreed to this yet.” He added that “it is difficult to transfer such technology” and expressed doubt that this would ever occur. The American president warned that “people to whom you give such technology may someday turn against you,” citing historical examples of wars where this has happened.

Donald Trump also reported that he had discussed the issue of Patriot and Tomahawk systems with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who visited the White House on Tuesday. According to Trump, he “talked to him about everything,” including efforts to end the war.

The American leader expressed the view that Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin “want to make a deal,” although there is “a lot of reluctance” between them. He assessed that “no one wants to make concessions, but both will have to make certain concessions.”
