A “substantive discussion is underway about how to move forward together in a world where Europe, as a very wealthy continent, can and already is assuming primary responsibility for its own conventional defence”. This was said by Deputy U.S. Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby at the NATO headquarters.
Colby added that Europe “remains a key interest for the United States, even as we prioritize the Western Hemisphere and the first island chain facing China”.
The need to clarify future relations
He also noted that Colby believes “there are certain issues we must clarify so that future cooperation makes sense”.
