Clooney, who this evening will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema during the inaugural evening of the 83rd International Art Exhibition, spoke about his America without mentioning Trump.
Criticism of ‘kakistocracy’ and the loss of decency
“The idea that cruelty is the basis and part of entertainment in the world, and that Pete Hegseth posted a photo of Canadian armed forces women on Twitter to mock them — this is truly absurd,” the actor and director emphasized. According to him, this is a “kakistocracy” — a government of the worst. Clooney added: “But what is the point of decency? Where has the sense of decency gone? We will overcome this too and become better.”
Reflections on modern journalism
Clooney, who in 2005 presented the film “Good Night, and Good Luck” in Venice about the world of journalism, also reflected on the state of today’s media. “The richest people in the world now own the Washington Post, Twitter, and most of our information sources: this is concerning. But there is still room for good journalism,” he said.
