Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Saar expressed hope that Iran will not make the mistake of attacking the country. In an interview with FRANCE 24, he commented on the renewed hostilities between the U.S. and Iran. Saar warned that any Iranian attack on Israel would trigger a “harsh” response.
Saar also accused Tehran of continuing its “pursuit of nuclear weapons”, stating that Israel “will not allow” Iran to achieve this goal. Amid the latest tensions between the U.S. and Iran, he warned Tehran against launching another attack on Israel. “If Iran attacks us, we will certainly respond harshly. But I am not sure that Iran will make such a mistake. Currently, we do not plan to join the war, and I hope Iran will not make the mistake of attacking now,” he said.
Settlement policy and violence
Against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the West Bank, Saar defended Israel’s settlement policy. He asserted that “it is our right to live anywhere on our land” and rejected European criticism of the E1 settlement expansion project.
Saar also denied that the government tolerates settler violence, stating that “there is no justification for anyone breaking the law.” He added that Israel’s law enforcement agencies “act against anyone who resorts to violence.” At the same time, he noted that “some of these incidents begin with Palestinian attacks on Israelis.”
