US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday, August 25, that all mines in the international waters of the Strait of Hormuz have been neutralized either by detonation or removal. According to him, Iran has been warned: any ship or boat that lays new mines will be destroyed.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump noted that the US, with the help of the Space Force, is monitoring every section of the strait, which is a key waterway in the global energy supply chain. “The zero-tolerance policy on mine-laying is fully in effect,” Trump stated.
Tensions in the Strait and Oil Transit
The US and Iran have not carried out airstrikes on each other’s military targets for several weeks, but attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz continue as both sides vie for control of this narrow sea passage.
According to preliminary data from the ship tracker Vortexa, oil transit through the strait on Monday amounted to 5 million barrels per day. Before the war, more than 20 million barrels per day passed through the strait — about one-fifth of global oil consumption.
