The United Arab Emirates on Tuesday, August 18, urged the population to seek shelter due to “missile threats”.
“Due to the current situation and potential missile threats, immediately proceed to the nearest safe, protected facility”, the warning from the Ministry of Interior stated. This is the first such alert from the ministry since a false alarm in June. Prior to this, the last missile threat warning was issued in May.
The Ministry of Defense clarified in its statement: “If you hear noises, they are caused by air‑defence systems intercepting missiles”.
Incident in the Strait of Hormuz
Last Thursday, the UAE condemned an attack by Iran on two vessels linked to the state oil company Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The UAE described this incident as “acts of piracy” committed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran.
